Feyenoord
Feyenoord Rotterdam may not have won the most prizes of all Dutch clubs, but because of its mass following it is still regarded as the biggest force in the Low Countries' football. After an erratic season in 2006/2007 the Rotterdam team are eager to show their loyal fans - known as the Legion - improvement. The Port of Rotterdam Tournament provides them with a first chance to do so as Feyenoord will face fierce opposition from two recent Champions League winners.
Feyenoord was founded in 1908 and has since won a great amount of silverware. The team have won the European Cup once (1970), the UEFA Cup twice (1974 and 2002) and can boast 14 Dutch championships. Famous for their youth academy, through which players like Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Robin van Persie surfaced, the side nowadays once again depends on home grown players such as Jonathan de Guzman, Tim Vincken and Royston Drenthe. The fanatic Feyenoord fans also count on other talented youngsters like Ron Vlaar, but hope to see some experienced players strengthening the squad over the summer so Feyenoord will be able to contend the 'Eredivisie' - title again.
This summer Feyenoord will start their centennial festivities. The Port of Rotterdam Tournament is happy to join in the celebrations.
