Shanghai ShenhuaShanghai Shenhua FC

Shanghai Shenhua FC is by far the youngest of the participating clubs. It is the child of the very recent marriage between Shanghai Shenhua (founded in 1993) and Shanghai United (2001). In spite of its young age 'Shenhua', meaning the 'flower of Shanghai', is already one of the best teams in the Chinese League. And, much like the Chinese economy, Shenhua is rapidly developing into a major player on the international scale. In its short history the club has already been runners-up in the Chinese Super League twice.

In recent years European football fans have seen the arrival of Chinese players such as Fan Zhiyi, Li Tie, Sun Jihai, Zheng Zhi and Dong Fangzhou in their leagues. Currently Xiang Sun from Shenhua is on loan at PSV Eindhoven. Sun has had absolutely no problems adapting to the level of the Dutch Eredivisie and the Champions League, proving that Chinese football will soon be a force to be reckoned with.

The Port of Rotterdam Tournament is very proud to be the first to be able to introduce Shanghai Shenhua FC to the Dutch football fans.
